The Future of Work 2025-2030: How Professions and Skills Will Change

The world of work is rapidly evolving due to technological advancements, demographic shifts, economic instability, geopolitical challenges, and the transition to a “green” future.

The World Economic Forum’s report, The Future of Jobs Report 2025, brings together insights from over 1,000 leading employers across 55 countries, representing 22 industries and 14 million workers. It analyzes how these global trends reshape the labor market, demand new skills, and transform employer strategies from 2025 to 2030.

Key Trends Shaping the Labor Market

1. Digital Transformation

Expanding access to digital technologies will be the most potent trend—60% of employers predict that it will reshape their businesses by 2030. The most influential technologies include:

  • Artificial Intelligence (86%)
  • Robotics and Automation (58%)
  • Energy Technologies (41%)

These changes will drive the demand for data skills, cybersecurity expertise, and technical literacy.

2. Economic Challenges

The rising cost of living has been identified as the second most significant trend, with 50% of employers expecting it to impact their businesses. While global inflation is slowing down, economic downturns could result in the loss of 1.6 million jobs. Consequently, demand for creative thinking, resilience, and adaptability will increase.

3. Climate Change

Adapting to climate change (47%) and mitigating its effects (41%) will also be major drivers of change. The demand for renewable energy specialists, environmental engineers, and experts in electric transport will rise significantly.

4. Demographic Shifts

Aging populations in developed countries and workforce growth in developing nations will stimulate demand for healthcare, education, and human resources professionals.

5. Geopolitical Tensions

Geoeconomic fragmentation will affect 34% of businesses. As a result, demand for cybersecurity specialists, management skills, resilience, and leadership will increase.

What to Expect by 2030?

  • Changes in Employment Structures: 170 million new jobs are expected to be created (14% of current employment), but 92 million jobs will be lost (8%).
  • Growing Professions: The fastest-growing sectors will include technological roles (prominent data specialists, AI professionals, software developers), green jobs (renewable energy engineers, electric transport specialists), and caregiving professions (nurses, social workers).
  • Most considerable Job Reductions: Administrative roles (secretaries, data entry operators, cashiers) will significantly decline.

Challenges and Opportunities for Ukraine

These global changes present both risks and opportunities for Ukraine. On the one hand, digital transformation and the development of green energy could open new job opportunities in IT, renewable energy, and technological industries. On the other hand, low digital literacy and economic difficulties could pose barriers to rapid adaptation.

To seize opportunities, it is crucial to:

  1. Invest in education and workforce reskilling, particularly in IT and the green sector.
  2. Create favorable conditions for innovation, attracting foreign investments.
  3. Develop infrastructure to support digitalization and the green economy.

Implementing these measures across the public and private sectors will help Ukraine remain competitive in the global labor market and foster economic growth in response to new challenges.

Ukraine is rapidly advancing in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Thanks to the potential of Ukrainian IT companies and government support, AI is gradually being integrated into public administration, the judicial system, and social programs. In the article “Artificial Intelligence and the State: What Projects Are Being Implemented in Ukraine” we will examine the key government initiatives and the role of Ukrainian IT developers in this process.
